Wild Rye: Discover Our Wetland Wildlife

Bittern in Winter

Walking the Reserve

The Nature Reserve can be divided into two general areas – the Beach Reserve and the area around Camber Castle. You can explore both these areas along the many footpaths, shown on the map.

Walking this network of paths provides an opportunity to see many species of plants and animals, a number of which are rare. And as these change with the seasons, you are likely to find something different each visit. Visit our what to look out for page for an idea of what to expect in any given month.

The Three Circular Walk leaflet (download below), starts at the car park in Rye Harbour village (view map). The Camber Castle Walk leaflet (download below), starts near Rye (view map). They also give an idea as to what birds you might see from the hides, as well as other wildlife along the way. Historical and geographical features of interest are also noted.
