Shingle is very tiring to walk on, but fortunately the private road that is used for lorries to transport shingle is also available to walk on.

warning

If lorries are running please give them plenty of room and get right off the road when they are passing - this is usually only weekdays of some winter months.

Buildings on the beach include the Lime Kiln cottage (now our information centre), two World War II blockhouses and the Mary Stanford Lifeboat House.
