Sea Defences

There have been major changes to the landscape adjacent to the Nature Reserve as a result of the Environment Agency improving the sea defences for the area. There are now seven new large areas of water on Rye Harbour Farm and a 3km long embankment.

The largest new pit is adjacent to Lime Kiln Cottage and will provide more views of wetland birds from our information centre. The work is not quite finished, but already the wildlife is colonising the new areas. It looks very promising for a long term improvement in the wildlife for this area.
