Next two ‘steps’ for Rye pedestrian and cycle route
Cyclists and pedestrians are set to benefit from a new route between Rye Harbour village and Rye.The county council has been working with local businesses who have dedicated land to the council allowing work to continue on the next two phases of the path.
Work will begin on the second section of the shared pedestrian and cycle path this Monday (19 November) and will last for 20 weeks. Once this is complete, work will begin in January 2008 on the third section from Weslake Industrial Estate to Rye Paddock.
The scheme is to be delivered in four sections. The first section of the route from Rye Harbour village to the sluice gate was completed in October 2006.
Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport & Environment said: “This work will result in a much safer journey for cyclists and pedestrians along a route which is used by schoolchildren, residents of Rye Harbour village and visitors to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.”
